The religious manual was published by Cai Yuanpei in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was used in all of the political reforms of the Ming and Qing dynasties, including polygamy, abstinence from alcohol, spousal abuse, and seclusion during the Golden Age of Confucianism. .Liu Qinghu’s manual was published in 1611. It mainly focuses on domestic politics and family life, it also gives advice on how to run a household and how to act as a husband. The Ma Family Commune arose during this period when the government was enacting policies dictated by Confucianism to improve moral behavior within the family. The Manchu rulers adopted many of these practices and ideals. Manuals such as Cai Yuanpei’s The Religious Manual were used in the process of political reform during the Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and Imperial China. Often used as part of political reforms, they are an important expression of culture in all three dynasties. : Ming, Qing and Imperial China. They are only available in Chinese.

History

The concept of Confucianism has existed in Taiwan since ancient times. It goes back to the “Confucian Code” (Minsheng, 法學歷例, meaning Book of the Law), first published in the 3rd century BC. By the 1st century AD the basic texts were formalized and the book was kept officially. In addition to the “Confucian code” composed of political law, moral codes, history and other historical studies; there are various classics like “Analects”, “Liuye and Mencai” or others that provide information about Chinese history, ancient culture, society, mythology, etc. . Contrary to the way Western philosophy was spread from Greece and Rome, this book was transmitted mainly from China, totaling 144 chapters. The second part is called “Minsheng”, a book of quotations (法訣) compiled in the 5th century AD. It consists of more than 600 chapters and contains 6 books and a number of smaller sub-texts, such as “Sinyi”, “Fengshui”, “Zhekan”, etc.
