Philosophy

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence, especially when viewed as an academic discipline. It is an attempt to understand fundamental aspects of human life from a philosophical or metaphysical perspective. Philosophers have drawn from many fields to pursue this inquiry. These include metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, etc., but philosophers also use these disciplines in their publications. Both ultimately refer to wisdom, but carried a variety of other meanings well into Roman times. “Philosophy” has existed in many forms, some of which are now gradually falling out of academic usage (ōsa”) means “wisdom” and thus literally means “love of wisdom”. Applying this elementary meaning of the term, one can see that the word “philosophy” in its modern form does not denote any particular branch of ancient Greek knowledge.

Historical overview

The Greek island of Thasos around 300 BC. These are some of the different types of philosophy.

1) Logic – Logic deals with finding out whether a given statement is true or not. It also addresses the distinction between knowledge and opinion, and other similar issues in philosophy.

2) Metaphysics – Metaphysics deals with the nature of reality and existence. But it’s also the area where you can get a lot of answers to questions about how things are, how they come about and so on. Since there are many ways to think about things, this area deals with many different approaches.

3) Epistemology – Epistemology deals with philosophical epistemology in general. For example, do you have to know something in order to have knowledge? This is a question that deals with the investigation of how we come from our knowledge and why it exists in the first place.

4) Ethics – Ethics deals with the question of what actions are right and what are wrong. It also addresses other issues such as how we should live our lives, how others should live their lives, etc.

5) Ontology – Ontology deals with the study of reality and existence in general. But it is also often used to refer to the study of certain types of reality or existence; for example, what is the nature of being human or animal; and so on.

6) Epistemology – Epistemology deals with philosophical epistemology in general. For example, do you have to know something in order to have knowledge? This is a question that deals with the study of how we come from our knowledge and why it exists in the first place.

7) Philosophy – Philosophy deals with the question of what knowledge is and how we have it. This topic also deals with what morality is, why we should do certain things, etc.
